Gorilla Trekking Buhoma Sector in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is refered to as the best trekking sector in the whole park of Bwindi .The sector carries an amazing trekking history compared to other sectors being the first to be identified as a trekking ground in Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park in 1993.
Buhoma sector is located on the North-Western side of the mighty Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It situated near the dark evergreen and hilly impenetrable forest of Bwindi. The sector was the first gazetted gorilla trekking ground among all sectors in Bwindi making it an undeniable priority. And for this reason, this region has the oldest habituated gorilla family known as the Mubare gorilla family which was the first to be visited by the first team of tourists to visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla trekking.
Surprisingly the sector does not have the highest number of gorilla families but most of the tourists check its availability making the others optional. This is majorly due to its amazing past history over others. Also, Buhoma is a home to Bwindi’s oldest gorilla family named Mubare which was habituated in 1992. Gorilla families in Buhoma
The sector has numerous gorilla families that were habituated and can be trekked including the oldest group in Bwindi. Majorly the sector has three gorilla groups that are Mubare, Habinyajna and Rushegura gorilla families. Mubare was the first group habituated in 1992 and hence the oldest family in the park has 9 members. Habinyanja was habituated in 1997 comprised of 17 members and lastly Rushegura family, which was opened for tourism in 2000 and had 19 members altogether. Each day, 24 gorilla permits are available and issued out in Buhoma where of the three gorilla families is visited by 8 people every day.

Apart from the major activity of gorilla trekking, Buhoma offers a variety of activities and attractions for travelers. They include a community walk to Batwa pygmies and Bakiga communities. These communities show off their ways of life like culture, preparing local food, demonstrating their forest life before they were evicted to the edge of the forest. Birding watching is also a must-do in Buhoma if the safari is to be complete.
