Gorilla Habituation Experience Uganda
Gorilla Habituation Experience Uganda is a new picking activity operated in Bwindi Forest Rushaga sector. The activity is similar to Gorilla Trekking but differs in away that GHEX is carried on Gorilla families that are not yet friendly to human beings in Bwindi Forest National Park
Gorilla Habituation Experience
is a process where wild mountain gorillas are trained to get used to people. Gorilla Habituation Experience may take between two to three (2-3) years to be completed and during this time, researchers keep on visiting an identified Wild gorilla group on a daily basis. They get to learn more about individual gorillas and the way they behave.clients spend more time 4 hours or so with mountain gorillas compared to gorilla trekking which is restricted to only one hour.
With time, these gorillas get used to these researchers and in the long run, each individual gorilla is given a name. Once researchers are sure that these mountain gorillas can be trekked, they then introduce a mock exercise where some few people who may include scientists, journalists start visiting it. Once such a gorilla family has passed mock exercise, then it is opened for Gorilla Trekking Exercise.
Every day, 4 Gorilla permits are issued to Trekkers at 1500USD per Gorilla permit. You may secure your Gorilla Habituation Experience permits in advance with us
Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi Forest during a Uganda Tour
Gorilla Habituation Experience call is carried out on Gorilla Families in Rushaga Sector of Bwindi Forest National Park Uganda. Some of the Gorilla Families for Habituation Experience adventure include Bikyingi Gorilla group. It is situated in Rushaga region in the southern Uganda Bwindi Forest was put a side for Gorilla Habituation Experience – GHE in Uganda, apparently Byikyingi group has 1 silver back, 9 adult females 2 sub adults and 9 infants. Another Gorilla group is Bushaho gorilla family.
Bwindi Forest national park has about eleven habituated gorilla families which include Mubare, Habinyanja and Rushegura in the Northern section of the park called Buhoma, then Bitukura, Oruzogo and Kyaguriro in the Eastern Part of Bwindi in Ruhija, Nshongi, Mishaya, Busingye, Bweza, Kahungye in Rushaga and then Nkuringo Gorilla Family all in the Southern sector.
Two gorilla families have been put aside for gorilla habituation experience and are located in the Nkuringo and Rushaga side of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Its for this reason that gorilla habituation safaris can only be done in the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Gorilla Habituation Experience costs USD1500 per permit and guests are allowed to stay with the gorillas for 4 hours and If you book a permit for gorilla habituation, you will be allowed to spend four hours with mountain gorillas under habituation. These four hours excludes the time you spend to reach the gorillas.
The activity starts at 7:30am and briefing is done much earlier unlik gorilla trekiing which starts at 8:30am
Currently gorilla habituation experience can be possible in Rushaga located on the southern part of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. It is thus not possible in Bwindi Buhoma or Ruhija side of the forest. This is because currently, it is only in Rushaga that we have two mountain gorilla families being habituated as compared to other regions which do not have gorilla families under habituation. For those interested in this experience should be ready to go to the south and book accommodation closer to Rushaga since this activity requires an early start.
What is inclusive in Gorilla Habituation Experience permit
This includes rangers, researchers and spending four hours with mountain gorillas under habituation. It also includes park entrance fees for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
For an exciting experience one should carry the following
Boots,Trousers, Long sleeved shirts, A rain coat, A jacket, A flash free camera, Insect repellents, Trekking stick (can be hired at the trekked point)

Gorilla Trekking Volcanoes National Park Africa Treasures
Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park is an amazing rewarding venture for your self to tour, come see how graceful and peaceful these creatures are in there natural habitats in Volcanoes National Park. Especially considering their incredible size You’ll be amazed and live to tell about nature of the gentle giants of the jungle in their different families in Rwanda.
Volcanoes National Park
is located in a small village called Musanze previously well-known as Ruhengeri, which is very accessible by public transport from Gisenyi or Kigali or from the airport. The drive to Volcanoes national park is 2 hrs and hence one can do gorilla trekking on the same day and drive back to Kigali after the trek. You will be required to arrive at the headquarters of ORTPN in Kinigi at the park entrance by 7:00am therefore if you hope to trek gorillas for one day, you have to wake up very early for your journey so that you are on time. However, there isn’t any public transport from Musanze to the headquarters of the park at Kinigi.
Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda has an easy procedure to be conducted
Initially contact us for all clearances preparations like permits, then after the arrival from your destinations to Volcanoes National Park A cup of tea/ coffee is served as you are being entertained by the local traditional Kinyarwanda dancers to give you a good start of a strenuous yet exciting day. Before the ranger guide gives you tips on how to conduct yourself on this trek.
Quick briefing on safety measures and what to expect during the day, you will be grouped in groups of 8 people maximum and each group is assigned one gorilla family to trek. Rwanda has 10 gorilla families, hence 10 groups of 8 people each are the ones allowed to track on a particular day.
Assigning the groups highly depends on the fitness and age of the guests. For example, those above 45 years and the ones with less fitness are assigned the ‘easy to find’ gorilla families which do not wander far away from the trail heads. However, even those with special interests about specific groups may inform their guides to help them negotiate with rangers before assigning the groups such that they may be assigned those specific groups too.
Each gorilla tracking group consists of a main guide and two scouts who carry AK-47 guns, one walking in front and another behind the group. The reason for armed scouts is for protection in the forest against wild elephants or angry, wild gorillas. The scouts are trained to fire shots into the air first in order to scare away the animals but this is only done on rarest occasions when all other options like hiding away from such dangerous animals have been We’ve never heard of any case where such animals attacked the tourists and the scouts had to fire bullets though on many occasions, they advise to hide or remain still until the animals go away. However the policy of the National Park is to be safe rather than sorry.
For a safe and disrupted gorilla trekking in Rwanda the following are essential
Trekking boots; foot wears are essential to guard your foot from the sharp grasses thorns sticks in the gorilla habitats
walking sticks; these are mainly to be used as a third hand and avoid contamination to forests, and also support to the weak
Trousers and a long-sleeved shirt: You’ll be ‘bushwhacking’ into a misty rain forest, so wear trousers and a long-sleeved shirt to protect yourself from the thick undergrowth and nettles.
Gloves: A pair of gloves will protect your hands when grabbing branches and vines, particularly a tough pair of gardening gloves.
Light rain jacket: Even if you’re visiting during the dry season, it’s a good idea to pack a light rain jacket. These forests can be damp and there can still be rainfall.
Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park is rewarding in the following ways
Entertaining: It amuses and incredible how graceful and peaceful these animals are, especially considering their incredible size. You’ll be amazed when you see the silver backs (mature males) get up and move around showing control over the territory.
Time with gorillas: spend some time with Gorillas, take photos, videos as long as no flashes and sounds are made when taking photos, this is because the animals are not used to them
For all gorilla tours, trackers guide you through the jungle clearing the brush with their machete so you can get a clearer and closer look at the gorillas.

Virunga National Park Re-opening
Since June 2018 one of worlds oldest, largest and most biologically diverse national park was closed in Democratic Republic Of Congo. This arose after the insecurity saga that happened in Virunga national park that rose great fears among tourists especially in the Eastern Province.
The incident led to the death of Mrs Rachel Masika Baraka a female park ranger and kidnapping two British tourists, Bethan Davies and Robert Jesty, plus the Congolese driver of their vehicle during their tour of the 3,000 square mile park, where they hoped to spot Virunga’s famous mountain gorillas amidst dense jungle vegetation.
This was a great disappointment not only to virunga National park staff but also Tourists in Congo ,tour companies among others, because this park has 8 gorilla groups for trekking and other activities like Nyiragongo volcano climbing, nature walks, scenic viewing, chimpanzee trekking and bird watching among others which were done there and But to a great disappointment there was need to revise the old and implement the new strategies to promote security in the park as the major reason why Virunga park was closed
BUT how ever to a great surprise Virunga national park has been RE-OPENED, The park was opened in February to resume its normal operations and activities this is indeed a great chance to those that have been waiting to tour Democratic Republic OF Congo’s oldest national park Virunga National Park
